My primary clinical research interest is in emergency evaluation and treatment of stroke focusing on the prehospital arena. Other research interests include imaging of stroke and transient ischemic attack as well as stroke prevention in the underserved. I am currently Associate Professor of Neurology (Clinical Scholar), and director of the Division of Neurocritical Care & Stroke at the University of Southern California. Administratively I serve as medical director of Stroke Centers at LAC+USC Medical Center and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and the Roxana Todd Hodges (RTH) Comprehensive Stroke Clinic. My experience in prehospital care includes serving in the leadership of the NIH-funded Field Administration of Stroke Therapy Magnesium (FAST-MAG) clinical trial as well a serving as a commissioner of Emergency Medical Services for Los Angeles County since 2012. In addition to Neurology and Vascular Neurology, I am board-certified in Neuroimaging through the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.
