Dr. Van Nguyen obtained his MD from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He then completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri and a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Southern California where he had the opportunity to remain as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology. Dr. Nguyen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts as well as the various types of primary and secondary glaucoma. His treatment techniques include traditional glaucoma drainage devices and trabeculectomy as well as newer technologies and devices of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, depending on the patient’s needs. Having immigrated to the United States from rural Vietnam as a child, Dr. Nguyen maintains many ties to rural Vietnam and has a particular interest in global ophthalmology and increasing access to care in order to decrease the burden of the two leading causes of blindness in adults worldwide: cataracts and glaucoma.
