    Collapse overview
The goal of my research is to define the role and mechanisms of chromatin modification in the development, function, and disorders of the brain. Dynamic gene regulation drives processes of patterning and cognition, coordinated by the interplay of regulatory DNA, transcription factors, chromatin modifiers, and three-dimensional structural interactions. Perturbations to chromatin regulation are among the most common causal factors in neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), collectively referred to as chromatinopathies. My current research integrates genetics and neuroscience, experimental and computational approaches to identify areas of convergence and divergence in neurodevelopment at cellular and molecular levels across chromatinopathies, with a particular focus on Kleefstra Syndrome (EHMT1), KMT2C-related syndrome (KMT2C), and Kabuki Syndrome (KMT2D). The long-term vision for my research is to use patient stem cell-derived model systems and multi-omic approaches of NDDs to (i) understand neurodevelopment broadly, (ii) understand the impact of these genes on co-morbidity development, and (iii) develop clinically relevant strategies to rescue mutant gene expression and ameliorate adverse phenotypes.

Altmetrics Details PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
