      Emily WhiteHorse, PhD, PA-C, Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, has been in education for over 30 years and remains devoted and committed to education and passionate about fostering excellence in the preparation of future physician assistants. She started her professional career as a high school teacher and athletic trainer for seven years before becoming a physician assistant. WhiteHorse has 13 years of clinical practice experience in orthopedics, general surgery and occupational medicine in private practice, hospital and clinic settings. For the past 19 years, WhiteHorse has been working in PA education in various roles including faculty member, academic coordinator, clinical coordinator and associate program director. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and is currently pursuing her doctorate in education.

      WhiteHorse has been very involved in Physician Assistant Education Committee, serving as a member on the Education Committee from 1996-2006 before being selected as chair of that committee from 2007-2010. WhiteHorse also served as faculty for PAEA’s Faculty Development Institute Basic Skills Workshops from 2000-2008. Her interest in holistic medicine has resulted in several publications in professional journals, a book chapter, and national conference presentations. She served as the PAEA representative to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy in Washington, DC in 2001 and the NIH National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine 5 Year Strategic Planning Meeting in Seattle in 2004. WhiteHorse was the first PA to serve on the Board of Trustees of the American Holistic Medical Association from 2003 to 2007.

      From 2010 to 2014, WhiteHorse worked as a freelance teacher and educational consultant for new and established PA programs across the country. Her work included teaching, providing faculty development and mentorship, review and revision of curriculum and assessment and preparation for accreditation. Whitehorse serves as the director of didactic education and is the course director for Behavioral Health Sciences III.
