Dr. Armaity V. Austin joined the faculty at USC Keck School of Medicine in 2010. She completed her FP Residency at the University of California Irvine. She moved to Arizona where she completed a Faculty Development Fellowship at University of Arizona College of Medicine (UACOM).
Prior to joining the faculty at USC, Austin held faculty positions at UACOM. Her background includes serving as chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Prior to becoming Chair, she served as the Program director of the FP Residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. She was one of the founding physicians to begin the Family Medicine Residency at the County Hospital in Phoenix.
Dr. Austin is passionate about teaching and community service. Among her many accomplishments and honors include Faculty of the Year, AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Award. Her commitment to providing social justice and providing health care to undeserved communities in the Phoenix area – she was recognized as a “Healthcare Hero for Community Outreach,” as well as recipient of the YWCA’s Tribute to Women, “Healthcare Healer Award” in 2005.
Dr. Austin has held numerous leadership roles at medical the medical institutions she has served –including Chair of Biomedical Ethics Committee, Executive Board of Directors, and Medical School Committees. She served as President of the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians.
A well respected Family Physician and educator, Dr. Austin was appointed to serve as the Healthcare Advisory Board of Former Governor of Arizona (Janet Napolitano). She has also served as the Board of Directors of several community organizations including Arizona’s Women’s Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, and Catholic Charities.
At KSOM she was instrumental in the inaugural Integrative Medicine Selective as part of the FPM for the second year medical students. She supports the Integrative Medicine Student Interest Group at USC KSOM.
Dr. Austin is a member of AAFP, AMA, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Her interests include Intergrative Medicine, Quality Improvement, Biomedical Ethics and Global Health.
